Save the Barn!

Speak up before it is too late. The last barn in Boyce Mayview Park is in danger. A recent survey of the one remaining barn by commissioners and township personnel determined that it was not worth saving. Several years ago there were three barns, the sole remaining buildings of the once extensive Mayview farm, which grew farm produce and raised animals to feed the hospital patients. Two of the barns were deemed beyond restoration and demolished. Additionally, they were in the way of planned new buildings. The milking barn, a stately brick structure, built circa 1920, has already had the unique brick and tile silos destroyed, and if restoration and reuse is disallowed, the main building is next.
If you are interested in saving this Upper St. Clair historical treasure, please contact the Commissioners and voice your opinion. Ask for citizen participation in the decision and for completion of adaptive reuse studies. In addition, your comments can be made on the township website by clicking on the Residents’ Input Sought on Mayview Barn link.
